Here are 5 tips to help you improve your acting skill.
READ A PLAY
Reading a play provides a visual representation of what is needed to carry out any role as an actor. Some interesting plays to help improve your perspective on characters are; Betrayal by Harold Pinter, Richard III by William Shakespeare, The Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekhov, and other plays that you can lay your hands on.
LOOK UP WORDS YOU DON’T KNOW FROM THE SCRIPT
While going through your script you may stumble upon words you do not understand, in such cases, wield the dictionary like a weapon. Researching these words help your interpretation of a given role.
WHAT DOES EACH SCENE LOOK LIKE IN YOUR HEAD?
You need to create a mental picture of the scene/character you are playing. Forming vibrant imagery of what the scene looks like will help you deliver originally.
HOW DO THE CHARACTERS SEE THE WORLD?
Learn how the characters see the world. You can not play a role you don’t understand.
WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERS MOTIVATION AND BACKSTORY?
Whatever character you are playing, you need to know the backstory i.e the history, background, and what motivates them to make the decisions they make in the play. This will enable you to process actions and reactions like the character would.
