HOW TO PREPARE FOR A CASTING CALL.

Casting calls, otherwise referred as casting , is a very popular term used in the film industry. As common as it may sound, there are persons who do not fully understand what it means nor how to prepare for one.

In the performing arts industry i.e theatre, film or television, casting call is a pre-production process for selecting a certain type of actor, dancer, singer or extra to play a role in a movie, TV, on stage or in a commercial. Casting calls select actors for production and are made known to the public or to casting agencies ahead of an upcoming production. 

There are important things to bear in mind to help prepare you for a casting call and possibly land you the role;

1. Be informed about the character role that the agency is in search of  and by all means do all necessary research and get practising before the casting date. This includes looking the part and fitting the description of the character aesthetically.
2. Practice confidence, be enthusiastic and your authentic self; let your hunger and excitement for the role be visible in your act but first, make sure the role is one that interests you.
3. Be on time; find out the details of the casting ahead of time, the venue, time and date and the proximity of the location from where you stay most especially. If possible, it’s advisable you visit the venue before the appointed date to confirm the address. This would also help to gain confidence and ease anxiety.
4. Read and understand the script; before the casting call make sure you understand the role. Study the character’s personality and motivation. This shows your level of seriousness and preparedness for the role.
5. Go with a copy of your headshot and resume; a lot of times, a copy of your headshot and acting resume is a requirement to be submitted to the casting director at the venue.

Above all do not forget to get enough rest before the casting, try not to overwork yourself so you do not get too anxious or overwhelmed. Remember the secret is to be yourself , you are the character!
