Why the Need to Acknowledge the Nigerian Youth

International Youth Day 2026, themed "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," provides a powerful opportunity to shine the spotlight on the creative role youths play in our everyday lives.

What is IYD and Why do We Celebrate?

Every August 12th, the world pauses to reflect on young people as the leaders of tomorrow and changemakers of today. This is because young people under 30 make up about half of the global population. This year's International Youth Day 2026 aims to create awareness of the need to ensure that youths are given the platform for meaningful and inclusive participation in today's world.

At Del-York Creative Academy, we are already charting that path. We recognize the important role of young people in society, and we believe that fostering a supportive and understanding environment is crucial in achieving the active creative workforce Africa needs right now.

Creating Employment Pathways For The African Youth

Del-York Creative Academy (DCA) continues to train the next generation of filmmakers, producers, screenwriters, cinematographers, and post-production talent. We deliberately dismantle geographic and financial barriers, trading passive charity for world-class technical infrastructure, direct industry mentorship, and viable market entry points. By teaching global storytelling through a distinctly African lens, DCA channels individual local realities into a unified collective push toward African economic self-reliance.

Our Approach: Film, Animation, and AI-Assisted Creation

To successfully bridge the gap between youth ambition and real-world industrial demand, we support youth in building the skills, accessing the resources, and seizing the opportunities they need to shape more inclusive and prosperous economies. We offer courses in these creative disciplines:

Filmmaking & Directing

Cinematography and Set Lighting

Acting for Film and TV

Post-Production

Producing and the Business of Filmmaking

Screenwritng for Film & TV

Our fellows do not just read theory. They operate on functional soundstages, handling industry-standard equipment while mastering the business mechanics required to build sustainable creative careers.

The Future is Already in Motion

As we celebrate International Youth Day, we remind the world that young people do not have to wait for tomorrow to create change. The opportunity to reshape the global creative landscape is unfolding right now. As our academy prepares for the November Fellowship intake, the door is swinging wide open for participants,  progressive corporations, state actors, and global brands to get involved.
