The production designer (P.D.) is the person responsible for the overall look of a film and has one of the key creative roles in the creation of motion pictures and television. This course will examine the collaborative relationship between direction, production designer, and cinematographer.
COURSE CONTENT
Students in this course will learn the following:
How to work directly with the director and producer to collectively select the settings and style to visually tell the story.
How to explore modes of design including structures, colors and makeup techniques that can reshape physical and emotional space.
Preparation and procedures for production design
Designing for special effects; designing for location
COURSE OUTCOME
At the end of the workshop, students should be able to translate abstract verbal ideas and concepts into a visual vocabulary and structure.
