For some actors, crying on cue must be one of the hardest things to do when acting. That is quite understandable because it’s not you who is crying; it is the character that is crying. Well, that’s where you’re wrong.
Remember that you are the character, and the character is you. To cry on cue is an impressive skill that can bring depth and realism to a character’s portrayal. So let’s go through a few techniques for the art of Crying On Cue.
Allow Vulnerability: Don’t be scared to look ugly in front of the camera. It’s okay to let go of your inhibitions and open yourself up to the character’s emotions. Let yourself feel deeply, and remember that vulnerability is a necessary strength in acting.
Feel Your Character: Before you can cry on cue, it’s important to deeply understand and empathize with the character you’re portraying. Remember their backstory, motivations, and emotions. When you completely engage yourself in the character’s life, it becomes easier to tap into the emotional depth necessary for crying scenes.
Relax And Focus: Relax yourself and focus on your reasons for crying. Do you relate to the character? What exactly is the situation? Does the character deserve whatever is given to him or her? Is it a cry of joy or a cry of sadness? Become the character and understand yourself.
Use Your Imagination: Once you can feel the character, imagine yourself in your character’s shoes. Imagine the environment. Is the air cold or warm? Put yourself in an imaginary scenario that would stir intense emotion in you.
